Two Rivers Art Gallery had been a very different experience compared to most of the field trips and speakers that we had Block 1. Most of the guest speakers and field trips had focused on how to use their āthingā in the classroom, where in this one they had focused on our experience in the gallery and then at the end had shown us how to use their resources and space in the classroom.
At the art gallery, they had let us look at the art and take it in. Then the Sophia had given us information on the current exhibitions.
The current exhibits that had been happening had both been put on by local artists.
Nonreturnables had been a collection of art made of plastics as a way to bring attention plastic wastes. Each piece had been done by a different artist from British Columbia.
This piece had been in the centre of the room and has been incredibly eye catching. It had been titled āPlasticosisā and had been done by DesirĆ©e Patterson. This piece had been very interesting to me as Sophia had explained that this piece had been done by near the West Coast and my very homesick self loved this.
The other exhibition had been āDismantled Worldā by Jude Griebel. This exhibition had been centred around the toxic relationship between people and the land. Some of the exhibits had included rising water levels (like the one above) or about oil in the ocean (like the one below).
Following the tour, they had taken us upstairs to go though how they bring in classes and how they partner with the Prince George Public Library to do tours.
They also do several types of tour and art classes. For ours they had us make an animal out of clay and this was an option of one of the things you could bring classes in to do. They are also able to tailor them to the grade which is brought in.
